New album blends funk, punk, hip-hop, dance, country, blues and metal, bringing songs written across several decades to a new generation of listeners
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — August 2026 — Author, attorney, educator, songwriter and producer George S. Mentz has announced the release of his new 35-track album, Lord of Lightning, through Mentzinger Media Ltd.
The ambitious collection brings together original music spanning decades of Mentz’s creative life, including songs first written during the 1980s and 1990s alongside newer compositions. The album moves across an unusually broad musical landscape, incorporating funk, punk, hip-hop, dance, country, blues, rock and metal.
“This project has been decades in the making,” Mentz said. “Some of these songs go back to my early years as a Commercial DJ, while others are completely new. Lord of Lightning brings those different eras together in one collection.”
According to Mentzinger Media, the project has already generated more than 100,000 streams and approximately 36,000 new listeners with its release. Mentz says his songwriting associated with the project has also been submitted for Grammy consideration.
From DJ Booths and New Orleans Influences to Lord of Lightning
Mentz’s musical background reaches back decades, beginning with DJ work and developing through exposure to the musical culture of New Orleans, songwriting, recording, engineering and production.
Rather than limiting Lord of Lightning to a single genre, Mentz approached the album as a musical autobiography. Listeners will hear influences reminiscent of the rock, punk, funk, blues, country, dance and hip-hop traditions represented by artists such as Green Day, Nirvana, Lenny Kravitz, Johnny Cash, Parliament-Funkadelic, Dr. Dre, The Rolling Stones, Afrika Bambaataa, Eric Clapton, Gospel, Red Hot Chili Peppers, B.B. King, U2, George Clinton and Led Zeppelin.
Modern production technology also allowed Mentz to revisit and engineer older musical ideas while creating recordings that combine the energy of a live club or stadium performance with contemporary studio production.
“I wanted the recordings to feel alive,” Mentz said. “Technology now gives independent musicians opportunities that simply didn’t exist when some of these songs were originally written.”
A Message About Creativity at Every Age
The release also carries a broader message: creative ambition does not have an expiration date. Mentz points to legendary musicians who have continued performing, recording and creating well into later life as evidence that musicianship and artistic expression can deepen with experience. “Age is no barrier to creative genius,” Mentz said. “Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or returning to something you loved decades ago, it is never too late to create.”
His message to listeners is equally simple: “Don’t let the music die — and dance and sing like nobody’s watching.”
